The Collections Management department was formed in August 2015. The department is headed by the Ann Evans, Head of Collections Management, who is responsible for leadership, management, policy and planning responsibilities for the library-wide collection support functions and the scholarly communications programme. Her duties also include overseeing the Bodleian Libraries' materials budget and leading the subject librarians in developing and managing the collections.
C&RD (Collections & Resource Description) is comprised of Acquisitions Services (including Electronic Resources), Legal Deposit Operations, and Resource Description. As part of the larger Collections Management Department, C&RD is responsible for collection policy and management, acquisitions of both print and electronic material, cataloguing (including training, support and catalogue maintenance), serials, legal deposit (print and non-print), e-resources (licensing, acquisitions, management, and technical support), and negotiation/contact with suppliers. It is also responsible for Gold Open Access APC payments, and the organisation of the UKRR initiative at Oxford. Whilst the selection of library materials is done by subject consultants, C&RD is responsible for the management, monitoring and reporting of the library materials budget.
The Storage & Logistics section covers two major areas of activity in the Bodleian Libraries: the Book Storage Facility (BSF) in Swindon and the Packaging and Delivery Service (PADS) in Osney. The BSF is a specialised warehouse that stores lower-usage items from the Libraries' collections and provides access to them by delivering items to the Libraries. These collections include books, maps, manuscripts, microfilms, periodicals and newspapers primarily from the 18th century onwards. PADS is a comprehensive packaging and book moving service, principally serving the Bodleian Libraries but also making its services available to the UK library, archive, and museum community as well as private individuals. The large and disparate nature of the Libraries' estate demand regular moves of collections between sites. PADS co-ordinates all book moving activities ranging from small transfers to the Book Storage Facility and between sites in Oxford to large-scale book move projects. PADS can also be used to transfer furniture between sites in Oxford.
