Scan and Deliver is an electronic document delivery service which allows you to receive scans by email of book chapters or journal articles.
We currently provide two services:
- OffsiteScan: A service to scan items held in off-site storage and closed stacks. Available to all current University and Bodleian Reader card holders.
- LibraryScan: A service to scan items held on the open shelves in our libraries and reading rooms. Available to all current University card holders.
Using this service
Requests are normally fulfilled within seven working days (Monday–Friday). This excludes weekends and any University holidays.
The service is currently free.

Place a request
You can place a Scan and Deliver request through SOLO.
OffsiteScan requests:
- Log in using your Oxford Single Sign On (SSO) or non-Oxford Member (Bodleian Reader) login
- Locate the relevant item record
- In the ‘Find and Request’ section of the record select ‘Scan & Deliver’.
LibraryScan requests:
- Log in using your Oxford Single Sign On (SSO)
- Locate the relevant item record
- In the ‘Export Options’ section of the record select ‘LibraryScan’
- If an OffsiteScan is available, please choose this over a LibraryScan.
We can process one Scan and Deliver request per reader per working day.
You may only request up to one chapter or article from a book or journal issue. These limits are governed by copyright legislation, and you will be required to agree to a copyright declaration when making your request. Find out more about copyright restrictions.
If necessary, we may contact you to request clarification of your requirements. We will notify you if we are unable to fulfil your request.
Receive your request
Once your request has been completed, your scan will be posted on a server and you will receive an email including a link to the scan. Your request will be available to access for 14 days.
Files are retained for 28 days, so please contact us as soon as possible if you need us to restore your file after the 14 day period has passed.
Your Scan and Deliver request is for individual research use only, and may not be shared, distributed or posted elsewhere online.
Issues and feedback
If there are any problems with the material you have received, please contact us and a replacement order will be arranged.
Feedback is welcomed, as this helps us to improve our services and troubleshoot any technical issues.
