Public engagement with research

Research is a core activity in the Bodleian Libraries and we support all academic divisions of the University of Oxford on public engagement with research.

We collaborate with researchers on a wide range of projects which make use of our physical and digital collections, staff expertise, and library buildings to engage the public with University research.

We are committed to a culture of two-way communication between our researchers and our audiences, which we achieve through collaboration with researchers as curators and co-producers, and by encouraging public response and dialogue within these projects.

Most of our exhibitions and small displays are curated by researchers from Oxford or the UK academic community. We also showcase research through activities using our printing presses, and through public talks, digital activities, events and schools visits.

If you are a researcher, it is a good idea to start thinking about why you want to engage, and who you want to engage as early as possible in your project. This gives time to plan effectively and consider funding opportunities. Find out more about public engagement with research at the University.
