Research data management

The Bodleian Libraries supports a number of Research Data Management (RDM) services to ensure research data can be managed, accessed, stored, preserved, and shared for reference and reuse.

Guidance and support

We also work collaboratively with teams across the University, including IT Services and Research Services, as Research Data Oxford, a cross-departmental group providing support for Research Data Management.

The Research Data Oxford website includes information and resources about all aspects of data management and sharing.

Planning data management

The University subscribes to the DMPonline tool to assist the creation of Data Management Plans, providing templates, guidance and feedback.

This tool can help researchers to:

  • think through all data-related activities and issues before research begins
  • identify the support and services available at Oxford
  • meet the requirements of many funders at the application stage, or soon after

We can help to provide feedback on data management plans created in the DMPonline tool.

You can find more guidance for writing data management plans on the Research Data Oxford website.

Archiving and sharing data

We run the Oxford Research Archive (ORA), the institutional repository for the University of Oxford, where research datasets are preserved and shared alongside other research outputs. Datasets deposited in ORA are made freely available for others to find and cite, as well as meeting funder and publisher requirements for data sharing.

We also run the Sustainable Digital Scholarship (SDS) service for the storage and sharing of semi-active data. SDS enables these datasets to be preserved and freely shared whilst they are still being actively added to and updated.

Training

The Bodleian Libraries offers training on research data management every term via our iSkills workshops programme, including:
