From Hilary Term 2018 the Sackler Library will be open on Sundays 12:00-18:00 for an initial period of up to 2 years.
Sunday opening will begin with a trial opening on 14 January. We look forward to welcoming readers but please bear with us while arrangements for the new hours and our new Sunday team settle.
The level of service will be similar to that offered on Saturdays. Please note that there are no book deliveries from the Swindon repository on either Saturday or Sunday, so closed stack items required at the weekend should be ordered by 10:30 on Friday, at the latest.
Extending our opening hours takes forward one of the key aims of the Bodleian Libraries Strategy for 2017-2022: 'We will improve access to highly used hub libraries by increasing opening hours to better reflect user requirements, focusing especially on weekend and vacation hours.' (Key strategic goal 3: Access, engagement and outreach.) This aim has been formulated in response to repeated feedback on this topic in reader surveys and committee meetings. The initial period of up to 2 years will allow us to monitor usage and inform further decisions about opening hours that best serve our readers.
We hope that Sunday opening will be seen as a welcome and productive development of our services, especially for graduate students. If you have any questions about Sunday opening, please do not hesitate to contact the Sackler Operations Manager, Frank Egerton (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We also welcome feedback about the Sunday opening hours and services.
