Facilities and Equipment

Tables and chairs

Two height adjustable tables and two standing desks are available in the main seating area. Adjustable chairs are available in the Graduate Study Rooms and at IT desks. Library staff will fetch or move these on request.

Single and double carrels

The SSL has ten study carrels which are in very heavy demand, particularly during exam time. These are available on a first-come first-served basis. Exceptionally, however, carrels may be reserved for lockable use by disabled students after recommendation by the Disability Advisory Service and Bodleian Libraries Disability Librarian. Readers for whom this provision is made must demonstrate a genuine need to use a study carrel.

Photocopying, printing and scanning

There are 5 multipurpose photocopying, printing and scanning machines in the SSL. These can copy and print in colour and black and white and can be used to scan documents to USB and email. All photocopiers will enlarge onto A4 and A3. Readers can print receipts via PCAS to redeem costs via the Disabled Students' Allowance. Coloured paper is available at the issue desk.

Lockers are available behind the main building reception. Padlocks can be borrowed from the library issue desk on short loan.

Alternative formats

As alternatives to traditional printed media, Oxford University subscribes to several electronic book and journal services available via OxLIP+. In addition, the Accessible Resources Acquisition and Creation Unit (ARACU) can provide material in DAISY audio, electronic text (both Word and PDF Image), Braille and tactile diagrams.

Assistive Equipment

A hearing induction loop is fitted in the middle of the issue desk, the position indicated by a sticker on the front of the desk. A microphone will amplify the voices of staff working behind this point on the desk for the benfit of readers using hearing aids.
