1955 Ė 1967 Professor of the History of Art, University of Oxford

Edgar Wind was the University of Oxfordís first Professor of the History of Art. In 1954, he was invited to give the Chichele Lectures at All Souls College, where he delivered four lectures on Art and Scholarship under Julius II. The following year, Wind became Professor of the History of Art, based at Trinity College. By many accounts an inspiring orator, his lectures were so popular that they were often delivered at the Oxford Playhouse Theatre in order to accommodate the large number of attendees.

Materials relating to Windís career and his time at Oxford are located throughout the University. The Wind Papers are held by the Bodleian Library. Part of Windís personal library, as well as the books he collected for the History of Art Department are located at the Sackler Library. The slides made for Windís lectures and classes are in the History of Art Departmentís Visual Resources Collection.
