Services and facilities at the Taylor Institution Library

This page provides details of the services offered to readers by the Taylor Institution Library. We also offer courses and training, support for research engagement and impact and services for academics.

Lockers

Lockers can be rented for the duration of the academic year (£10 refundable charge) and are on the first floor of the library. Lockers are only available to library users with a valid Bodleian card. Please ask a member of staff at the issue desk for information on how to rent a locker.


 

 

Print, Copy and Scan (PCAS)

The Taylor Institution Library has two Print, Copy and Scan (PCAS) machines for self-service photocopying, printing and scanning. These are located on the ground floor of the Teaching Collection, and on the second floor in the Enquiry Room. Find out more about PCAS and how to manage your PCAS account


 

 

Connect to Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available in most areas of the Taylor Institution Library and the St Giles' building Common Room. There is no Wi-Fi available in the Second and Third Floor Stacks. Find out more about Bodleian Libraries Wi-Fi networks and how to connect.


 

 

Use library computers and equipment

The Taylor Institution Library provides library PCs for readers to use. You can use these PCs to access our e-resources, including our electronic legal deposit material via SOLO. Find out more about how to use Bodleian Libraries computers and the software available for readers.

The library has ten large free-standing monitors which readers can use to plug in their own laptops and other devices. The monitors have USB/USB-C, HDMI and DisplayPort connections. The monitors are placed across the library and cables can be borrowed from the issue desk. 


 

 

Request or reserve items

The Bodleian Libraries hold more than 14 million items in total. Many of these items are stored offsite or in closed areas. You can request or reserve items via SOLO and have them delivered to the Taylor Institution Library. Most items arrive within 24 hours. Find out more about placing a request


 

 

Inter-library requests

The library is part of the Bodleian Libraries' inter-library requests service (inter-library loans). Find out more about how the service operates and how to place a request online. Film viewing facilities

The Taylor Institution Library has a Film Viewing Room with seating for four people and facilities for watching Blu-Rays, DVDs and VHS tapes, as well as for playing cassette tapes and vinyl records. Remote controls should be collected from the Issue Desk on the ground floor before using the room.

The Film Viewing Room has step-free access. Bottled water and hot drinks in KeepCups or similar sealable containers are allowd.

The room can be used Monday to Friday, 9am – 6.30pm, and on Saturdays from 10am – 5.30pm. The default booking period is two hours and the maximum is four, although arrangements for extended viewings can be made via the Issue Desk. Digital Microfilm Reader 

The library has a Covergold SL-1000 Digital Film Scanner which reads both microfilm and microfiche. The scanner is connected to a Reader PC in the Periodicals & Reference Room on the second floor, opposite the Enquiry Room. A manual is available and library staff are happy to help with using the scanner.  


 

 

Bookable group study room

The Graduate Study Room at the Taylor Institution Library can be booked by any library user for group study on weekday mornings only between 9am – 1pm. It is available for use as a graduate student workspace in the afternoons from 1pm – 7pm, on Saturdays and at any time the room is not booked.

The room is equipped with a projector and screen. Please email taylib-premises@maillist.ox.ac.uk in advance if you need to use the projector and screen for your session. It also has a tripod and scanning tent for digitisation of texts. Please email tay-enquiries@bodleian.ox.ac.uk if you need help using this equipment. There is one Reader PC available and the room has WiFi.

The Graduate Study Room is not accessible by lift. Bottled water only.

Common Room

The Common Room is on the lower ground floor of the Teaching Collection, accessed via steps from the ground floor corridor. The room has comfortable seating and a water filter machine, and is the only place in the library where food is allowed.
