While the majority of our libraries are closed, you can still access a wide range of services and resources remotely.

Scan & Deliver

Scan & Deliver is an electronic document delivery service which enables you to obtain scans of book chapters or journal articles from the Bodleian Libraries' print collections ordered via SOLO. There are two scanning services:

  • OffsiteScan: from off-site storage available to all card holders
  • LibraryScan: from reading rooms available to current members of the University with a SSO

Special Collections mediated scanning

Special collections mediated copying provides digital scans of unrestricted special collections items free of charge.

Available to: University members

Imaging services

Imaging Services provides digital images, photographic prints and paper prints from microfilm within the Bodleian Libraries and manages permissions to use these images in electronic and non-electronic formats. A curated selection of images is available for purchase and licensing through our online picture library.

Inter-library loans

The Inter-library Request Service seeks to provide access to material not held at the University and free electronic delivery is available. Please check SOLO before making a request.

Electronic Legal Deposit

If you are studying or working remotely you can request a copy of electronic legal deposit material via the Print & Deliver service.

Online resources


Use SOLO to search physical and electronic items available across the University's libraries, including over a billion records for articles and other e-resources.

Filter results by Online Resources to find electronic resources that can be accessed remotely look for the green Online access icon.

Available to: University members. For e-resources available to everyone filter by Open Access at the top of the left hand column of search results in SOLO.

HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access

We have reinstated our emergency access arrangement with the HathiTrust.

This service enables on-screen read access to 1.5 million in-copyright items in the HathiTrust Digital Library, which have been verified as held in the Bodleian's collection in ph­­ysical form (in addition to approx. 4 million public domain items already available). The majority of the collection is in Humanities subjects.

University members can log in to the HathiTrust website following the yellow login button at top right and enter Oxford into the box. Select University of Oxford to be redirected to the SSO login screen. Or use the links from existing records in SOLO where a digital copy is available via HathiTrust.

Readers with print disabilities will be able to request full book downloads on copyrighted items via the Accessible Resources Unit (ARACU).

Oxford Reading Lists Online

Explore reading lists for a selection of courses across all divisions on ORLO, with access to scanned book chapters where available.

Oxford University Research Archive (ORA)

ORA provides open access to a wide range of articles, dissertations and other papers by Oxford academics and research students. Over 56,000 complete works available.

Available to: everyone

Digital Bodleian

Search and explore the Bodleian's collections on Digital Bodleian, with over 900,000 images of c.16,000 collection items.

Available to: everyone

Oxford Google Books Project

The University of Oxford entered into partnership with Google to scan the Bodleian Libraries' out-of-copyright holdings. The initial phase of this work was completed in 2009, with several hundred thousand of our books being scanned and made available via Google Books.

Bodleian iSkills - workshops in information discovery and scholarly communications covering searching for scholarly materials, keeping up to date with the latest research, reference management, measuring impact, copyright and protecting your intellectual property, open access and research data management.

Workshops for your subject - workshops focussing on key resources and tools for particular subject groups.

Oxford LibGuides: subject guides and research skills

Oxford LibGuides provides a wide range of guides to subject resources, research techniques and information skills.

Self-isolating students

Students or readers who are self-isolating can access the resources included above.

You are also able to nominate someone to act on your behalf to make use of the Click & Collect borrowing service.
