Welcome

The Bodleian Libraries supports all staff and students associated with the University of Oxford Medical Sciences Division and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. These Webpages focus on our services in support of the Medical Sciences Division – our extensive range of services to our NHS colleagues are detailed at www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/nhs

We support the full range of learning, teaching, research, and clinical activities across the Medical Sciences Division. Our services are delivered from a wide range of locations and online to support MSD staff and students across Oxford and far beyond. The Bodleian Libraries also strive to improve the services for disabled readers and are committed to provide the same library experience as to non-disabled readers. Please see our help guide for more information.

Our services to the Division include access to the largest collection of online journals, books and databases in UK Higher Education; programmes of skills development; and access to a number of physical libraries with extensive physical collections, quiet and group study facilities, and IT facilities.

We support and undertake a wide range of research and teaching activities – for example, literature searches and horizon scanning in support of research bids and research activity; assistance with systematic reviews; enabling and supporting compliance with funder open access publishing mandates and Act on Acceptance; group training and one-to-one information consultancies; support for Public Engagement with Research activities; and induction programmes and sessions for all new staff and students.

The main physical libraries housing the bulk of our medical collections and associated medical/healthcare subject staff are the Radcliffe Science Library in the centre of Oxford and the Bodleian Health Care Libraries’ sites in Headington – the Cairns Library (John Radcliffe Hospital), the Knowledge Centre (Old Road Campus/Churchill Hospital) and the Girdlestone Memorial Library (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre). The library at the Horton Hospital in Banbury is also open to all members of the MSD.
