Michaelmas term at the Bodleian Libraries

Due to COVID-19, there are some changes to the libraries, services and resources for the upcoming term. It is important for you to look after yourself and others as the University returns for Michaelmas term.

You will still be able to access the material you need, and all our support services, including your Subject Librarian who will offer a virtual or in-person service when possible but things may look a little different.

Reading Rooms

For those libraries which have reopened to readers, our reading rooms will be open from 9.30am each day, closing times vary and more detail can be found on our opening hours page.

You will need to book a seat to study or use a library computer, these slots are available in half day options.

Bookings can be made up to one week in advance and will close at 8am on the day of your chosen time slot. If you are no longer able to attend the library, please cancel by emailing reader.services@bodleian.ox.ac.uk to free up availability for others.

Book your space in a reading room on this page.

Library services

Click & Collect

Click & Collect is designed to enable access to the Bodleian Libraries lending collections in easiest way possible.

Borrowers will be able to place requests on the library catalogue, SOLO, for items which would usually be available to borrow. Library staff will fetch the items requested and, once the items are ready for collection, borrowers will be emailed to invite them to select a date and time to collect the items.

Find out more about the Click & Collect service.

Scan & Deliver

Scan & Deliver is an electronic document delivery service which enables you to obtain scans of book chapters or journal articles from the Bodleian Libraries print collections. Currently, this service has no charge.

Visit this page to place a Scan & Deliver order.

Return of loans & fines

You can return books to any of our open libraries. When the libraries are closed you can use one of our book boxes located at The Philosophy and Theology Faculty Library at the Radcliffe Humanities building or The Sainsbury Library at the Saïd Business School - this is an external drop-box situated to the right side of the building on Rewley Road opposite the Fire Station.

Fines are currently suspended, we will inform readers when they are reinstated.

A freepost service is available for students who graduated during summer 2020. Visit the loan returns page for details.
