HAMLET at the Bodleian Library

Last Update 11 July 2012

During the period Tuesday 10 July – Thursday 26 July 2012 the Bodleian Library is delighted to host in association with
Oxford Playhouse a Globe Theatre on Tour’s production of Hamlet in the Old Schools Quadrangle.

Whilst disruption to readers will be kept to a minimum as the performances take place outside Library opening hours (with the exception of one Saturday matinee on 21 July starting at 3.30pm), there may be a larger number of visitors than usual in the Quadrangle and Proscholium towards the end of each performance day associated with the production and set up. There will also be a short ‘warm up’ of about half an hour by the cast at approximately 6pm which will include some music.

As part of this event the Library is hosting a series of pre-show talks given by members of the English Faculties (University of Oxford and Brookes University) in Convocation House.

Audience seating will be retained in the Quadrangle throughout this period but there will be ample space for readers to access the Library. It is not anticipated that any entrances to the Quadrangle will be closed off with the exception of a closure of the North Arch entrance on Tuesday 10 July to allow set up.
