The Bodleian Library: Special Collections Temporary Move

21 January 2009

In preparation for the refurbishment of the New Bodleian Library, a large proportion of Special Collections material currently stored there must be relocated temporarily in order to protect the collections during the refurbishment of the library.

During this period the Special Collections which are affected will be available for consultation at the temporary Bodleian Library Special Collections Reading Room located in the Radcliffe Science Library (RSL). This reading room can become very busy at times. In order to ensure a reading space, prospective readers are encouraged, if possible, to book in advance of their visit. This can be done by email: or telephone (01865) (2)77046.

Duke Humfrey's Library will continue to provide access to manuscripts and rare books not transferred to the Radcliffe Science Library.

A list of the transferred collections and fuller information is available on the website
