Ground investigations adjacent to the Radcliffe Camera

23 March 2010

As part of the works required for the proposed Underground Bookstore project (public exhibition to be held in the Proscholium from 23 March – 1 April), a series of Trial Holes and Boreholes are required to provide factual information on the subsoil, interpretation of the site ground conditions and extent and location of the existing Radcliffe Camera foundations for use in the design of the proposed construction works.

Oxford City Council’s Conservation Officer has formally confirmed that Listed Building Consent is not required for these minor excavations. An Archaeologist will be present during these works.

Work will begin on Monday 22 March 2010 and will last approximately a week. There is likely to be some intermittent noise for which the Library apologises to readers.
