Starting today Estates Services are re-gravelling the quad between the Old Bodleian and Clarendon Building. This will improve the visual impact of the area and reduce the problem of the stones being kicked around over paths and down drains.
This involves digging out the existing to a depth of 100mm and refilling the excavation with a layer of crushed limestone and then new interlocking gravel. A small digger will be used for the excavation and a vibrating roller for compacting the limestone and new gravel. It is inevitable that there will be varying degrees of noise from this work.
Readers should go to the southern end of the Old Bodleian reading rooms for quieter study.
