Reading lists at the EFL

Undergraduate

The English Faculty provides course information, including reading lists, via Canvas.

Some reading lists can also be found in ORLO (Oxford Reading Lists Online). Sign into ORLO with your SSO and search for the course/paper name. The ORLO platform allows you to see quickly where copies of a print book are held within the Bodleian Libraries, and to link directly to electronic content where it is available.

Most of the undergraduate reading lists in ORLO (for Prelims and FHS Course I period papers) are faculty reading lists intended as supplementary to your tutorial reading lists.

The English Faculty is piloting the use of reading lists in ORLO for Prelims papers and for Course I FHS period papers. These are works in progress; the English Faculty wants to know how useful you find them. Please bear the following in mind:

  • These lists are supplementary and should not take the place of any reading lists given to you by your tutors.
  • Reading suggestions are not exhaustive: you could easily approach any of the topics through alternative or additional primary and secondary texts.
  • There is no guarantee that any of these topics will come up in University exams, nor are all the topics that might come up covered.

The English Faculty would like to use this pilot as an opportunity to diversify and extend the reading suggestions given to students. If there are any texts or topics that you would like to see included, please send details to the course convenor named at the top of the list.  Similarly, if you have any feedback on the format of the lists, please let the course convenor know.

The MSt reading lists are included in the Course Details book, available via Canvas.

The reading lists for the A and B courses and for some C courses are also available in ORLO. Sign into ORLO with your SSO and search for the MSt name. The ORLO platform allows you to see quickly where copies of a print book are held within the Bodleian Libraries, and links directly to electronic content where it is available.
