Two OULS staff members have contributed to radio programmes which will be broadcast beginning this Sunday.
Bruce Barker-Benfield (SCWMSS) and Chris Fletcher (Head of Western Manuscripts) recently took part in two special editions of the Radio 4 programme ‘Poetry Please’. The programmes combined their usual format of requests from readers for favourite poems with discussion of the original manuscripts of those poems held at the Bodleian.
Chris Fletcher said: ‘Bruce’s programme explored our great holdings of Shelley material, and mine featured our poetry holdings more generally, including Philip Larkin, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Kenneth Grahame, John Donne, Thomas Hardy and, of course, “Anon”. Each programme is presented by Roger McGough (a poet himself) and features two actors, Jamie Glover and Claire Skinner, reading the poems.’
Chris Fletcher’s programme, the general Bodleian survey, is on air on Sunday 4 February at 4.30pm, repeated on Saturday 10 February at 11.30 pm.
Bruce Barker-Benfield’s programme on Shelley is the following edition on Sunday 11 February at 4.30 pm, repeated on Saturday 17 February 11.30 pm.
