The Bodleian Libraries provide access to a wide variety of electronic resources including electronic journals, e-books, newspapers and online databases. Online resources can be accessed through SOLO, OxLIP+ and OU e-journals

If you are a member of Oxford University working outside of the Oxford network you can access subscription resources when off campus using your Oxford Single Sign On. Please refer to the Bodleian Libraries' Remote Access page for further details.

Finding books

Use our online library catalogue SOLO (Search Oxford Libraries Online) to search across the Bodleian Libraries for books.

Other useful catalogues for searching for books outside Oxford include: British Library, Wellcome Library (London), COPAC & WorldCat.

You can also browse the shelves of the History of Medicine Library using the Library of Congress Classification Scheme as a guide to subject areas.

Online Journals

Many academic journals are now available online in full-text. To search for an electronic journal go to OU e-journals which is now contained within OxLIP+. Many of the most popular History of Medicine journals are available electonically including Bulletin of the History of Medicine, Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences, Medical History and Social History of Medicine. We also subscribe electronically to the Nursing History Review.

Databases A-Z is the main gateway to the Bodleian Libraries' electronic resources. You can search by title or subject for resources including newspapers, primary sources, statistics, e-book collections, citation indexes, reference works and bibliographic databases.

Bibliographic databases are useful tools for finding individual journal articles, book reviews and conference proceedings. Key ones include: Historical Abstracts, Bibliography of British and Irish History and History of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Access to eBooks

Individual electronic books are listed in SOLO. Search by title and then select the 'Online resource' link. Collections of e-books such as ACLS Humanities E-book, Cambridge Histories Online, ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) and EEBO (Early English Books Online) are also available via OxLIP+.

There are also many out of copyright primary source books which have been digitised and are freely available online via Google Books and the Internet Archive.
