Notice on the accessible lift

Updated: 22 April 2024

The accessible lift in the Radcliffe Science Library is currently out of order. This means there is no level-access to the lower-ground floor and the Quiet Reading Room.

The small lift, which gives access to the Informal Reading Room and Group Study Rooms 2, 3 and 4, can accommodate smaller wheelchairs.

For questions on accessing the library contact marija.babic@bodleian.ox.ac.uk

We apologise for the inconvenience and are working to fix this as a matter of urgency.

Accessibility

The main doors to the library are level with the pavement and wheelchair-accessible. There is lift access suitable for wheelchairs to all areas.

The RSL Disability Liaison works closely with the Bodleian Libraries Disability Librarian and the University's Disability Advisory Service. After you have contacted the Disability Advisory Service, they can make an official referral to the Bodleian Libraries. Find out more about the support and services available for disabled readers.

Facilities and equipment

Furniture

The library has four height-adjustable desks in each of the two reading rooms. The large study room (John Kidd Room) in the basement also has four height-adjustable desk and ergonomic chairs. This room can be booked via our online booking system.

Study carrels

All our study carrels are located on the lower ground floor. They are small sound-proofed rooms for one person to work in. There are three standard study carrels and an accessible study carrel. Students who are registered with the Disability Advisory Service can book study the study carrels by contacting enquiries.rsl@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. Generally, the carrels operate on a first-come, first served basis.
