Using Oxford University Archives

Admission

You will need a Bodleian Reader card (type 'A') to consult material. Find out more about applying for a Bodleian Reader card.

Consulting material

Material from the University Archives is consulted in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Reading Room in the Weston Library. For opening hours, check the Weston Library webpages. Readers using University Archives material must follow the rules of the reading room.

We aim to make the material in the archives accessible to all readers. Find out more about access arrangements for readers with disabilities.

We usually require at least 5 working days’ notice of your intended visit to ensure that we are able to bring the material to the reading room for you. Readers can keep a maximum of 10 items on reserve in the reading room at any one time (including items ordered from other parts of Special Collections). Please let us know by email (enquiries@oua.ox.ac.uk) the items you wish to consult and when you would hope to do so. We can then arrange delivery of the material to the reading room in good time.

Material from the Archives is made available in accordance with our Access Policy (PDF).
