Summer school students

The library supports the wide range of summer schools run by the Department for Continuing Education at the University of Oxford. All students on these summer schools are welcome to become borrowing members of the Rewley House Continuing Education Library.

The range of library services available to you depends on whether your programme has supplied you with a Bodleian Reader card. If you do not have this type of card, you will be issued with a Continuing Education Library card.

Students with a Bodleian Reader card

For summer school students with a Bodleian Reader card, the Bodleian Libraries offer you:

  • reference access to the central Bodleian Library and other key research libraries
  • borrowing rights at the Rewley House Continuing Education Library
  • access to Oxford University's extensive e-resource collections
  • Print, Copy & Scan facilities using a PCAS account
  • study space in both historic and modern library reading rooms (most equipped with Wi-Fi)
  • help and advice from Bodleian Libraries staff

Visit the Bodleian Libraries guide for Bodleian Reader card holders to find out more.

Students without a Bodleian Reader card

This information is for students on summer schools and programmes who do not have a Bodleian Reader card.

Your course may have pre-registered you with the library; you will have a library card and guide in your course pack. If you do not have a card, please come to the library and we will register you and give you a card. Your card will be valid for the duration of your course and will enable you to borrow items. Please note that your card is only valid for the Rewley House Continuing Education Library.

In addition to the library's print collections, you have access to the University's extensive collection of electronic resources using the library PCs or via Bodleian Libraries Wi-Fi in the library and Reading Room. Please ask library staff for a password, and if you would like help to find and use electronic resources.

Please ask the library staff if you would like to photocopy or scan, or if you would like to print from electronic resources in the Library, or you need to make colour prints. Charges apply.

The library has 6 PCs for accessing SOLO (the University’s library catalogue) and electronic resources. There are also 2 ‘Quick Serach computers for searching SOLO. These computers do not require a login.

The Reading Room adjoining the library entrance area is open from 8am – 10pm every day. You are welcome to take books from the library into the Reading Room. Ask the library staff for a password for Wi-Fi or using the library PCs.

Oxford University Summer School for Adults (OUSSA)

The library welcomes OUSSA students. You will receive a library card and library guide in your course pack. If you are an OUSSA student attending more than one OUSSA week, your card is valid throughout your stay. If you already have a University or Bodleian Reader card, you can use this for OUSSA and you will not find a card in your course pack.

When you arrive, there will be an opportunity to receive a brief introductory tour of the library. For email and writing your assignment, OUSSA students should use the PCs in the Student Computing Facility or the Computer Teaching Room. Printing facilities are also available to OUSSA students in these rooms. You will find details of these in your course pack.

During OUSSA there will be an opportunity for you to attend a session run by a member of library staff to help you to find and use library resources when you are not in Oxford. It is also an opportunity for you to raise and problems or queries you may have about library resources.
