Stack Requests

Material from the Vere Harmsworth or Bodleian Library bookstacks can be called up using the Hold (stack request) facility on SOLO. A maximum of 10 items can be requested at any one time and will be kept in the library for one week unless renewed.

For information and guidance on placing stack requests, please see the SOLO online guide.

Inter-Library Loans

Inter-library loans for books and journal articles not held in Oxford can be requested from the enquiry desk.   Any enquiries about our inter-library loans service can be emailed to ill-vhl@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. For more information please see the Bodleian Libraries' website.

IT Facilities

Our reader PCs have access to all the University's online resources, including SOLO and OxLIP+ databases, as well as to the internet. To log on to the PCs, please use your library card barcode and password. If you have forgotten or do not know your password, you can reset it online at: https://register.bodleian.ox.ac.uk.

Printing is available via the Bodleian Libraries' PCAS system.  Please see the Bodleian Libraries' website for more information.

Wireless network: The library has a wireless router installed offering access to the University network for wireless-enabled laptops.  There are three different wireless networks available:

  • Bodleian-Libraries: Connect to the network and then open your web browser. You will be prompted to enter your library card barcode and password to authenticate (as for logging on to reader PCs). Once logged on, you will have access to the full range of electronic resources as if you were using a library PC.
  • OWL (University members): For more information on how to connect, please see the OUCS website at: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/wireless/
  • Eduroam: If you are an external reader and have an Eduroam account from your home institution, you can use this to connect to the wireless network here. Please note however that it will only give you access to the electronic resources subscribed to by your institution, not those available in Oxford. Oxford University members can also use Eduroam - for full instructions please see http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/wireless/services/eduroam/

Photocopying

There is a self-service photocopier available for reader use.   Payment is managed via the Bodleian Libraries' PCAS system - please see the Bodleian Libraries' website for more information.

There is a group study room available on the ground floor which can accommodate up to six people. This can be booked for use by phone (82700) or emailing vhl@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.

Disabled Facilities
