Borrowing

Holders of current (blue-stripe) University Cards may borrow from the Taylor Insitution Library and the Taylor Bodleian Slavonic & Modern Greek Library. New readers should register at the staff desk of the relevant Library.

Please note that, with effect from Monday 1 October 2007, fines will be charged for the late return of loans. The following standard tariffs have been approved by the Curators of the University Libraries:

20p per day for standard loans
£1 per day for short loans (including films)

Once the total fines incurred for books borrowed from an individual library reach £10, all fines must be paid in full in order for the reader to continue to borrow from that Library.

With the exception of open-shelf reference works, periodicals, older (pre-1900) materials and rare or fragile items, most of the Library's collections are available for loan. More details of confined items are available on request.

Rules concerning borrowing

  1. Books are issued on production of a valid University Card which has been registered with the Library. Readers are responsible for ensuring that the Library is informed of their current address.
  2. A borrowed book may not be lent or transferred to any other person, and must be returned to the Library on or before the due date.

  4. Reminders: Reminders will be sent by e-mail when loans are due for return.
  5. Renewals: Up to three online renewals are allowed if items are not overdue or required by another reader.
  6. Holds (Reservations): Holds may be placed online for books already on loan to another reader. If, after the first loan period, a book is urgently required by another reader, the Library may send the borrower a notice asking for its return.
  7. Replacement of lost items: The cost to the Library of replacement of any item which is lost, damaged or defaced will be charged to the reader responsible. For books which are not in print, a standard charge will be levied. In addition, a £10 charge to cover processing, handling and administration will be levied. The original copy remains the property of the Institution.
  8. Non-return of borrowed items: In cases where books are not returned on time or when their return has been expressly asked for, or where an invoice for replacement is outstanding, the borrower may, at the discretion of the Librarian in Charge, lose the privilege of borrowing books.
