Parliament Week 19 - 25 November

19 November 2012

PW_SML_Title_CMYKThe Bodleian Libraries are taking part in Parliament Week, the nation-wide initiative co-ordinated by the House of Commons and the House of Lords.  Its aims are simply to raise awareness of democracy and democratic institutions in the UK, and to inform people about how they can take an active part in them.

The ongoing theme for Parliament Week focuses on ‘Stories of Democracy’, and the Libraries participation this year highlights collections that both directly address Parliament in the United Kingdom as well as look at how UK Parliament connects to democracy in other nations, from the United States to South Africa.

Throughout this week, the Bodleian website will feature a different aspect of the Libraries’ materials:

Parliament Week brings together a diverse range of organisations, schools and individuals from across the UK in a week-long programme of events designed to engage, inform and inspire.

Many organisations across the country host events about democracy and political engagement. BBC Question Time is being broadcast from the historic Westminster Hall on Thursday 22 November 2012 and the Hansard Society is hosting ‘Young People’s Question Time’.
