If the book or journal article you need is not available in the Bodleian Health Care Libraries, the Document Supply service should be able to obtain it for you from another library. This service is available at both libraries, and the majority of library members are eligible.
About the service
How much does it cost?
A photocopy (up to 50 pages in length) or book and journal loans are currently charged at the rate of £5.00 per item. All charges are payable in advance, unless you are an authorised account holder. If you are not sure whether you are on your departmental account please check with your supervisor or departmental administrator.
How do I make a request?
Please complete a document supply request form, with the details of the item you require. Request forms are available to pick up at each library, and you can print a pdf form here. Please ensure that you correctly complete the copyright declaration; indicating that the item is not for commercial purposes and signing/dating the form. Completed requests can be scanned and emailed, or posted to us.
How long does it take?
Please allow ten working days for your request to be fulfilled.
- We are dependent on other libraries for the supply of requests and are unable to guarantee delivery by a certain date. However, it is not unusual for material to arrive within a week.
- If the material you have requested is not available at the supplying library we will let you know. Our usual practice in such instances is to request that we are placed on a waiting list.
A fast-track service is available for material required by fax or by first class post for loans. The charge for this urgent delivery service is £11.00 per item plus a variable copyright fee. Delivery is often same-day or within 24 hours. Please advise library staff if you need this service, as pre-payment is required.
Journal article by email?
Journal articles ordered from the British Library can be supplied directly to your desktop using their Secure Electronic Delivery (SED) service.
We also obtain a small number of articles from the British Medical Association library, and we can forward these to you as PDFs. NB we cannot guarantee that the article will come from either of these sources. If you wish to take advantage of these possible delivery methods please email the Document Supply Coordinator.
