Finding an online version of a specific journal

Search our law reports and journals

The Bodleian Law Library has created a database to search for law reports and journals held both in hard copy and online.  This can be found at http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/law/collections/lawreports_and_journals.  You can search using the title field and this will quickly tell you where you can find the journal both in hard copy and, if it is available online, which database.

Oxford University eJournals

Oxford University e-Journals is an A-Z of online journals and is the best way to find journals by  title (e.g. Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Yale Law Review etc).

It is not suitable for searching by article title or citation or for subject searching  (If you wish to search by subject, article title or author please see subject searching).

To use Oxford University eJournals:

1.  Go to http://ejournals.bodleian.ox.ac.uk

2.  Enter full words from the journal title in the search box or browse the A-Z.  Please note:

  • Oxford University eJournals does not understand abbreviations so you must enter full words (e.g. Oxford Journal of Legal Studies rather than OJLS). If you are unsure of an abbreviation look it up in Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations
  • Be sure to enter the journal title and not the article title
  • Although Oxford University eJournals has a "By Citation" option this does not work for law journals.

4.  Oxford University eJournals will list one or more databases that hold the journal you want and give the date range covered by each database. Be sure to pay attention to the date range covered by each database before making your selection  Some databases will have back issues but not necessarily the most recent issues, whilst others will have recent issues but not nessarily older issues.

What if Oxford University eJournal does not have the journal?

Oxford University eJournals covers over 1500 legal journals. However, it does not include all journals on Westlaw or some of the US titles on Lexis Library.

If you are searching for a journal check 'Search our Law Reports & Journals' Oxford University eJournals first.   If you do not find the journal on Oxford University eJournals:

  1. Check Westlaw
  2. If it is a US title check Lexis Library via Oxlip+
  3. If you still do not find the journal then it is probably not available online. Please consult the Library catalogue to locate a print copy. You are welcome to contact the Library to check that an online copy is not available. If neither is available then you may be able to arrange an inter-library loan (charges apply), see the ILL page for more details.
