About Us

The Bodleian Law Library is a reference-only library, and does not offer lending services, thus the books you want should be available when you visit.

It is housed in the St Cross Building on Manor Road, a ten minute walk from the Bodleian Library in Broad Street.

The Law Library occupies over half of the St Cross Building, and all four floors (floorplans in pdf) are open to readers, with most of the collection on open access shelves.

Admission to the Law Library is generally restricted to members of the University and its affiliates, unless prior arrangements are made.

Opening hours are longer in term time than in the vacation periods.

Staff in the Law Library look forward to assisting you with your research and reference queries.

Please Note The Law Library does not provide legal advice. Such advice may be had from a qualified solicitor (Law Society's find a solicitor) or the Citizens Advice Bureau service.
The government website Directgov may also provide some answers.

Keeping up to date with Bodleian Law Library news

The Library uses a variety of methods to help keep readers up to date with library and collection development news.
The first is for current Faculty members only; the rest are open to all to consult.

The Law Bod News

During full term, an e-newsletter is sent out weekly to current Law members alerting them to any developments in e-resources, classes offered by library staff, changes in library services & hours, new New Books Bulletins and library competitions.  Look out for the bulletin in your inbox.

New books bulletins

These are made available (as downloadable pdfs) on our website. In addition, members of the Law Faculty can request that the Bulletins be sent as attachments to their individual, University email addresses.
