Reading of the prose and poetry of Jenny Joseph by Miriam Margolyes OBE

The Bodleian is proud to commemorate the life and work of poet Jenny Joseph.

Buckinghamshire-raised poet Jenny Joseph won a scholarship to St Hilda's College, Oxford, graduating in English in 1953. She published her first poetry collection, the Gregory Award winning The Unlooked-for Season, in 1960. Her second collection, 1974's Rose in the Afternoon and other Poems, included what has become her most famous and widely anthologised poem, 'Warning' (When I am an old woman I shall wear purple). She also published short stories, children's books, prose and non-fiction work. She donated her literary archive to the Bodleian in 2017.

Booking is required. Tickets will not be available on the door. Each transaction is subject to a £1 booking fee.
