This workshop, with celebrated book artist Paul Johnson, imagines how medieval bookmakers might create a book using today's paper engineering methods.
Attendees will first explore the exhibition Designing English, with the curator, to discover medieval innovations in written formats, including folded almanacs, pocket books and spinning wheel charts. Paul will then teach a range of paper folding techniques used in modern moveable books.
Inspired by medieval books in the exhibition and this intricate paper engineering, you will create your own moveable eight-page book.
Materials are provided and you should have time to finish the structure of your book. You may wish to continue to write, draw, collage or paint to complete your book at home.
Tickets cost £10. Booking is essential.
