Jane Austen worked with two publishers, Thomas Egerton and John Murray. If she herself was hailed as a new kind of novelist, they too moved into new territory in publishing her work - neither was a noted novel publisher.
Why did Murray take a risk on Austen? What kind of risk did he take with her? And what can we discover of the relationship they forged with each other?
