Based on a Bahari Visiting Fellowship in the Persian Arts of the Book, Anita Chowdry will share a fascinating journey of research into the Bodleian Library's collection of magnificent illuminated manuscripts made for the fifteenth century Turcoman prince Pir Budaq during his residencies in Shiraz and Baghdad.

The lecture will cover the context of their making including insights into the original materials and techniques that were employed, and also consider the role of the late eighteenth century collectors for whom they were restored by a later generation of craftsmen in post-Mughal workshops in India.
