D F McKenzie Lecture 2017
Peter Kornicki is Emeritus Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Cambridge.
Having studied Japanese and Korean at Oxford, followed by a DPhil in 19th-century Japanese Literature, Peter spent a number of years in Japan. He has taught Japanese at the University of Tasmania, then became Associate Professor at the Humanities Research Institute of Kyoto University. Since 1985 he has been based at Cambridge, and in 2002 was elected a fellow of the British Academy.
Much of his career has been occupied with studying the history of the book in Japan, to understand how ideas and literature circulated, and how books were read and received.
