Oxfordshire mobilized

In Oxfordshire as elsewhere the war soon impacted on all areas of life. Citizens joined the armed services in great numbers, and University students applied for commissions as junior officers, about 170 joining the local Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Regiment before the end of 1914. Colleges and University buildings were employed as hospitals and for cadet training. Oxford Town Hall and several large country houses were pressed into service as hospitals and convalescent homes for wounded servicemen.
