Books & e-Books
The SSL stocks over 250,000 books, from textbooks and books on taught course reading lists to the latest social science research monographs. A large proportion of our collection is available to be borrowed, while we also hold some reference and Legal Deposit works, which are for library use only.
In addition to our printed book collections, many social science books are accessible through the SOLO catalogue in electronic format. Look out for the "View Online" link for access to the full text.
Journals & e-Journals
There are over 1000 printed academic journals, periodicals and serials at the Bodleian Social Science Library. In addition, the Bodleian Libraries provide access to over 48,000 electronic journals. Search for journals by title, subject or ISSN on SOLO and Oxford University e-Journals and see which volumes are accessible at Oxford, or find an article on Google Scholar or bibliographic database, and click on the "Find it @ Oxford" link to access the full text.
e-Resources and Databases
A thorough literature search will require the extensive use of bibliographic databases, such as ProQuest, Web of Knowledge and Scopus, all accessible to Bodleian Libraries users via SOLO and OxLIP+. In addition, a large number digital archives, online reference works and other electronic resources are also available.
Discussion and Working Papers
The Library holds a collection of reports, papers and essays from over a hundred NGOs, universities, national banks and research and policy centres in the subject areas of Criminology, Economics, International Development, Politics & International Relations, Refugee Studies and Social Policy & Social Work.
Dissertations and Theses
The SSL holds selected Master's Dissertations in certain social science graduate courses. All DPhil Theses are kept at the Bodleian Library. In addition, the Bodleian Libraries offer a number of comprehensive electronic resources for accessing citations and full text of theses and dissertations.
