Changes to Bodleian Libraries services

9 January 2021

In response to the revised Department for Education guidance, a huge increase in demand for remote services, and a reduced number of students visiting reading rooms, the Bodleian Libraries is amending its service provision and reviewing this in advance of Hilary term. Please monitor our updates page and the Bodleian Libraries twitter account for the most up-to-date information.

All readers are encouraged to make use of our low-contact and zero-contact remote services and to only visit the physical libraries if they are current University students or researchers, have been invited back to Oxford (or remained on campus throughout the Christmas vacation), and cannot carry out their studies remotely. If you require access to material which is unavailable, please recommend a resource. Remote services available include, but are not limited to:

The following libraries will be open 10am-4pm, Mon-Fri. Access is limited to current University members and study spaces will need to be booked in advance.

  • Old Bodleian Library (including Duke Humfrey's Library)
  • Sackler Library
  • Social Science Library
  • Vere Harmsworth Library (including Radcliffe Science Library collections)

In addition, the Cairns Library at the John Radcliffe Hospital will be open for clinical students who are onsite for clinical activity between 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri.

For more information regarding COVID-19 safety measures please see the University's coronavirus advice pages. Students are encouraged to not visit the physical libraries until they have received their first negative test result.
