Staff in the Oxford University libraries this week sent a cheque for over £600 to support
Red Nose Day 2007 charities.
Most of the money was collected in one day, during the annual Oxford University Libraries Staff conference, held at St Catherine’s College. As the conference was the day before
Red Nose Day, the organisers (in the photo with a cheque for £613) decided to run a raffle
to support the cause. Gifts were donated by local businesses and by library staff.
One staff member carried out an extra fund-raising effort. Chris Hargreaves (left in the photo, of the libraries’ Systems and E-Resources Service), asked for sponsorship to remain silent
for three days, including the day of the conference. ‘It was great fun,’ she said afterwards.
Red Nose Day 2007 has raised over £40 million for charities in Africa and the UK.
