Finding aids for the John Johnson Collection

This page provides an overview of the finding aids available for the original John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera. Please note that these are not on SOLO.

Finding aids are also available for additions to the collection and for modern ephemera.

Overview

Around 100,000 of an estimated 1.5 million items in the John Johnson Collection have been catalogued. Find out which sections have been catalogued and digitised.

Most other sections have indexes. We are gradually putting these online.

Online catalogue

The Johnson online catalogue contains records for material catalogued to date. It includes records for projects (except the Toyota Project and Ballads). Find out more about the online catalogue.

You can consult the list of digitised sections to check whether a Johnson section has been catalogued at an item level. If not, it might be indexed.

Indexes

Indexes give a guide to the contents of the boxes in the collection and the arrangement of material inside them. They are not intended as item-level descriptions.

The collection has around 1,000 subject headings. 97 headings are also catalogued at an item level and 81 are digitised. On the Digitised sections page, you can see the cataloguing status of each section.

The indexes are linked from two lists:

We have been checking and revising our indexes and are continuing to post these indexes as PDFs.  If you are interested in a section for which there is no current online index, please contact us (jjcoll@bodleian.ox.ac.uk).
