Renewing online

Readers may renew library books directly on SOLO, the library catalogue. SOLO can be accessed from any internet connection. If you have any difficulties renewing online, please contact the Library.

1. Sign in to SOLO :

Click Sign in at the top right of the screen. 

  • If you have a Single Sign On, click the Oxford Single Sign On link and enter your SSO username and password.
  • If you do not have a Single Sign On, click Other Bodleian card holders and enter your library card barcode and associated password.

Note: Enter the first 7 digits of the barcode only. Please ignore any remaining digits or letters.

If you do not have a password, or have forgotten it, you can obtain one by going to or contacting library staff.  

2.When you have signed in:

Click My Account at the top right of the screen. You will see a list of all the items you have on loan at all Bodleian Libraries. 

3. Renew your books:


Click on Renew for each item you wish to renew


Click on Renew All to renew all items on loan to you  

4. Check the renewal has succeeded.

If successful, a new date will appear in the Due Date column and a Renew successful message will appear in the Renew column. If unsuccessful, a Renew failed message will appear at the top of the screen, and the reason will be displayed by the item(s).

Renewing in person

Readers may renew their books at the library desk during library opening hours.  You will need to give your library card to the member of staff on duty.  

Renewing by phone

Readers may renew their books by ringing the library desk on 01865 270454 during library opening hours. You will be asked for your library card number.  

Renewing by email

You will receive an email reminder just before your books are due. You can reply to this message requesting a renewal. You can also request a renewal by emailing Please remember to include your library card number and your full name in your message. Email renewals are dealt with during library opening hours only.    

Why can't I renew?

At the Continuing Education Library, there is no limit on the number of renewals you may make. However there are some situations where you may not be able to renew:

  •  the book has been reserved by another reader or recalled by Library staff
  • your library membership has expired
  • you have blocks on your record due to overdue books or unpaid fines
