Conservation treatments often allow access to parts of manuscripts and rare books that are not normally exposed and this can lead to exciting and important discoveries. The Bodleian Libraries Conservation and Collection Care team carefully documents all of our conservation treatments, noting the techniques and materials that we use and recording the physical structure and condition of collection items through reports and photography.
In addition to our documentation, the Bodleian's conservators publish articles and a list of our recent and forthcoming publications is available to download. These include technical accounts of conservation treatments and reports of newly developed conservation techniques that are published in refereed international conservation journals, or the technical analysis and interpretation of collection items that are published in relevant academic journals and conference proceedings. We aim to make our research and publications available to the widest possible audience by depositing them in the open access Oxford University Research Archive.
For examples of recent conservation projects see our case studies page.
