We will encourage you to think about applying for a postgraduate qualification in library and information studies and run a session in Michaelmas term about applying for courses.
Quite a few of our trainees go on to gain a Masters in Librarianship, but not everyone does.
To develop a career in library and information studies we would encourage you to undertake one of the Masters courses accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). You could do this either full-time, part-time or via distance learning. Financing a postgraduate degree does need some thought.
Some of our trainees stay on and work whilst studying part-time or via distance learning. Others manage to do the course full-time. Whatever option you decide to go for, there is the cost of the course to consider and travel and (potentially) accommodation fees as well. There are options for additional finance either through a Career Development Loan or a Government Postgraduate Loan. Some universities also offer a discount on course fees if you studied there previously.
