Description

The Weston Library and the Bodleian Library have events taking place across the weekend for Oxford's annual Christmas Light Festival.

Come and join in the fun all weekend:

Friday 17 November

Bodleian Library

Ring out - sound artist Ray Lee creates a musical and visual spectacle with his symphony of electronically generated bell sounds. Giant bell-like speakers swing higher and higher in the Clarendon Quad (between the Bodleian Library and the Clarendon Building) until each arm soars up over the audience, ringing forth with a peal of electronic tones and a transfixing harmony of pulsing drones. www.ocmevents.org/ring-out-ray-lee
Performance time: 10pm

Weston Library 6-10pm

Oxford Philharmonic String Trio - an exciting chance to hear beautiful music from one of the UK's leading orchestras. A distinguished string trio comprised of musicians from the Oxford Philharmonic perform works by Boccherini, Beethoven and Francaix in an informal concert at the Weston Library.

Make your own Christmas card -  Use your artistic talents and the Bodleian printing press to print your own 'season's greetings' cards featuring mash-ups of Bodleian Collection and exhibition images.

Memoryphones -  Oxford Contemporary Music and the Museum of Oxford join forces to bring you Memoryphones from artist Dan Fox. The striking oversized gramophone-like horns will play stories collected in the 'My Journey to Oxford' project from the Museum of Oxford.  By placing your head inside the Memoryphone you will hear an intimate re-telling of stories from people that have travelled from across the globe to settle in Oxford. Outside the Weston Library, the Castle Quarter and Westgate.

Festive food and drink - sample warming mulled wine and delicious mince pies. Benugo are renowned for their handmade, authentic and natural products - as well as their fabulous coffee and teas and offer a wide selection to suit all tastebuds, including sandwiches and salads, hot dishes, cakes and pastries.

Christmas shopping - visit the Weston Library shop for exclusively designed Christmas gifts based on the Bodleian Collections, including bespoke homewares, stationery, jewellery and accessories. For book lovers, we have a curated range which includes catalogues and richly illustrated titles produced by our award-winning publishers, Bodleian Library Publishing.
