The Royal Bank of Canada Foundation Lecture

A surprising number of early Renaissance thinkers were also translators of Plutarch. This lecture explores the rise of vernacular translations of Plutarch in France and the links between humanist scholarship and political argument through the lens of Plutarch with special reference to the works of Geoffroy Tory, Guillaume Budé, Desiderius Erasmus and Claude de Seyssel.
