Description

Going back to the pronunciation of Shakespeare's time brings huge new dynamism to familiar texts, and reveals a wealth of nuances, puns, and rhymes that otherwise lie completely hidden.

The renowned writer, scholar, and broadcaster David Crystal explains the linguistic detective work that has reconstructed 17th-century pronunciation, as well as demonstrating just what it sounds like.

David Crystal is the author of The Oxford Dictionary of Original Shakespearean Pronunciation.
