S Blair Hedges is Professor in Biology and Director of the Center for Biodiversity at Temple University. Also a scholar of printed illustrations, he has pioneered new methodologies for studying early woodcut and copperplate prints, including innovative techniques for improving their dating. His lecture will discuss how understanding both biological and physical processes can help book and print historians understand the nature of woodblock printing.
The respondent will be Martin Andrews, Lecturer in the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading.
