Self-adjustable Eyeglasses

A simple idea can change health care forever, and Oxford has an impressive record of innovation that has significantly advanced global health.

Joshua Silver is part of this celebrated history: an atomic physicist turned vision scientist, Silver’s ambition is to improve the eyesight of the world’s poor. The World Health Organisation has estimated that over one billion people would benefit from eyeglasses but do not have access to them. Silver’s invention helps to answer this great need by allowing the wearer to correct his or her own eyesight using self-adjustable glasses. Over 50,000 pairs of Silver’s original ‘Adspecs’ have already been distributed across some twenty countries.
