Name the Dragon Competition

Competition winner announced

Dragon model

After much consideration, the Bodleian Library Shop is proud to announce the winning entry in the Name the Dragon Competition. Surpassing over 800 entries, ‘Wallflower’ was chosen because, as the winner writes, ‘He is shy and, as he is a grotesque, he would be found on a wall, and flower sounds sweet although he is a dragon'.

The competition asked visitors at the Bodleian and online to help name the Shop’s dragon model. Inspired by a stone dragon grotesque hiding on the north exterior wall of the Divinity School, the new dragon model is a shy, retiring creature. The winner will receive a dragon to hide in their very own garden.

Other playful entries included ‘Gordan’, ‘Smaug’, ‘Custard’, ‘Humfrey’ and ‘Smooch’.

If you are interested in purchasing your own Wallflower, visit the Bodleian Library Shop.

Thank you for all those who participated!
