Peter Mangold and D.R. Thorpe spoke about Harold Macmillan, later 1st Earl of Stockton, (1894-1986) Conservative Prime Minister. The seminar was chaired by Professor Anne Deighton, Wolfson College, Oxford.

D.R.Thorpe, author of Supermac, the recent biography of Harold Macmillan, spoke about the annotated memorandum on Macmillan's resignation as Prime Minister handed to the Queen on 18 Oct 1963.

Peter Mangold (St. Antony's College, Oxford), author of The Almost Impossible Ally, a study of Macmillan's relationship with de Gaulle, spoke about [PDF, 122kb] the Prime Minister's personal minute to Sir Frederick Hoyer-Millar, Head of the Foreign Office, on June 19, 1959.
