Book collection disruptions at The Sainsbury Library

24 August 2015

The Sainsbury Library is planning the creation of a new self-contained quiet room on the lower level of the Sainsbury Library.

This space currently houses some compactus shelving and 'stack' material, which is to be transferred up to the second level of the library.

Before staff can create the quiet room, space needs to be freed up on the second level, which in turn requires the upstairs collection to be temporarily stored in a location outside of the library. During this time, any books from the upper collection will be available only via request to the Sainsbury Library staff with a turnaround period of no more than 24 hours.

This will apply to any book with the SOLO location 'UPPER READING ROOM'.

Some books may be available in other libraries across the Bodleian and staff will be happy to help you locate them.

The Sainsbury Library staff apologise for the disruption which is anticipated to last for a period of around 4 to 5 weeks.

This work is being completed by Saïd Business School in response to repeated calls for quieter areas for study and is being done in the midst of an enormous amount of building work being delivered to accommodate the increase in student numbers and academic staff as of September 2015.
