The new Collections Descriptions database is now available online for our readers. Comprising descriptions of various collections held within OULS, the resource can be accessed on the OULS website: www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/collections/collections_descriptions
The Collections Descriptions database contains records of 220 collections housed in OULS libraries. Searching is enabled by Library, Collection and Keywords. Users can select different output styles.
Besides listing the obvious and large collections, the database provides information on smaller or lesser known library and archive collections. ‘Modern Languages and Literatures’, for example, shows 32 matches, including collections such as the Mortara or Toynbee Collections (Italian literature, Bodleian Dept of Special Collections), the Hasluck archive (Albanian folk literature, Taylor Bodleian Slavonic, East European & Greek), and the Wardrop Collection (Georgian and Caucasian studies, Bodleian Oriental Collections).
The database gives libraries a good opportunity to display parts of their collections which may be of special interest to researchers in or outside Oxford. The Refugee Studies Centre Library, for example, lists 6 special or specialist collections including the LIPS, Betts, Cooper, Guy Goodwin-Gill and Weis Collection.
