Bodleian Libraries Chair shortlisted for Elle Decoration Best British Design award

The upcoming Bodleian Libraries Chair designed by Edward Barber OBE and Bodleian chair imageJay Osgerby OBE has been shortlisted in the product category for an Elle Decoration Best British Design award. Awarded annually, the prestigious awards focuses on designs commissioned in the past twelve months spread over six key categories: Best British Product, Interior, Exterior, Designer, Sustainable Design and Pattern.

The Barber Osgerby duo were successfully selected as the winners of the Bodleian Libraries prized Chair Competition in September 2013. The winning three-legged oak chair design will become only the third bespoke seat to be made for the Bodleian Libraries since 1756. Currently being manufactured in the UK by Isokon Plus, the chair will be installed in the newly-refurbished Weston Library which is to open to readers in October 2014. In 2012, the Barber Osgerby duo won the internationally acclaimed Design of the Year award for their iconic design of the London 2012 Olympic Torch, and earlier this year were shortlisted in the Design of the Year 2014 competition, run by the Design Museum in London.
